NEW WEBSITE NOW LIVE ! The Narrative Practitioner Conference will be held in the North East Wales Institute of Higher Education Wrexham North Wales in the UK. This institute dates back from 1887 where the original School of Science and Art was funded by ‘Whisky Money’, a tax on spirits and the famous Wrexham Lager.
NEWI is a full member of the University of Wales degree awarding body and the present buildings, often featured in Architecture magazines in the 1950s, were designed by the famous architect Sir Patrick Abercromby. In the 1950s, Peggy Angus designed the famous ‘Welsh background’ tiles in our main foyer, which are now protected as a Grade II listing.
NEWI accommodates around 6000 students , 350 of which being from overseas. NEWI is proud of its local links with industry including The National Health Service Trusts, Airbus UK, Daimler Chrysler, Rolls Royce, the North Wales Police and the Japanese company San-Ei Gen and many other private organisations. NEWI’s sports centre has recently hosted the National Badminton Championships and the European Hockey Championships.
NEWI has over 70 lecture rooms, conference suites, laboratories, workshops and seminar spaces The main NEWI campus at Plas Coch covers 31 acres. Recent performers at Wrexham or NEWI include The Waterboys, Super Furry Animals, Shaun Ryder, Girls Aloud, Funeral for a Friend, Wet Wet Wet, Bryan Adams and The Alarm.
